About the University
The University of Tasmania (UTas), established in 1890, is Australia’s fourth oldest university. With over 30,000 students and more than 110 undergraduate degrees, UTas is a hub of academic excellence and innovation. However, navigating this vast and historic institution posed significant challenges, leading to the need for a more efficient and user-friendly wayfinding solution.

Challenges
- Complex Campus Layout: UTas’s multiple campuses have intricate layouts with numerous buildings, classrooms, and facilities spread across large areas. The sheer size and complexity of the campus led to student overwhelm.
- Late arrival to classes: Students and staff often spent considerable time locating their destinations, which resulted in missed appointments, delayed arrival to classes, and increased stress levels.
- Increased Demand on Staff: Frontline staff were frequently required to assist with navigation-related queries, diverting their attention from more critical tasks.
- Accessibility Concerns: Students with disabilities, including visual and mobility impairments, faced additional challenges navigating the campus. Resolving this was key priority given the university’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
Solution
MazeMap’s 3D maps provided a comprehensive solution to these challenges. The maps are detailed, interactive, and available across multiple devices, making them convenient and user-friendly.
- Detailed 3D Visuals: The 3D maps offer a rich, immersive view, making it easier for the user to recognize the surrounding environment. The 3D maps provide context with regards to landmarks helping users identify and find their destination efficiently.
